Eliška Hornátová (6 May 1929, Prague) studied English and Polish at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. She worked as senior lecturer at the Department of English Studies in 1962-1991. She is the author of the anthology A Reader in Contemporary American Prose (1970, with Jarmila Emmerová and Radoslav Nenadál) and co-author of the study The English Compound Verb (1983). Her translations include the works of C. P. Snow, Irish Murdoch, Daphne du Maurier, Ann Radcliffe, John Fowles, and others.
