Jakub Boguszak

Having found his passion for the literature of the English Renaissance in the lectures and seminars run by the Department of Anglophone Literatures and Cultures, Jakub Boguszak took his BA in English here in 2010, and later continued his postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford, where he completed his doctorate in 2016. He then worked as a research assistant at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, providing dramaturgical support for theatre productions and in-house research and education projects, before taking up a lectureship at the University of Southampton. At Southampton, Jakub currently teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses on Shakespeare and early modern drama, Elizabethan literature, poetry, and adaptation. His published work includes studies of Shakespeare, Ben Jonson, and early modern drama in performance and in print. His new book, The Self-Centred Art: Ben Jonson’s Parts in Performance (Routledge, 2021), is a study of early modern acting, focusing on the plays of Shakespeare’s only serious rival in comedy, Ben Jonson.
