How to apply

The application form is available online on the Faculty of Arts website (the system allows the applicant to select either Czech or English at the very beginning – click on a little UK flag in the upper right corner). Applicants for double subject study must submit a separate application form for each programme. Deadline for online application form submission is 31 March 2021.

Apart from the application form (which the students submit in the online system) the following enclosures must be submitted by e-mail to Dr Mirka Horová and received by 31 March 2021:

The enclosures required:

  • Abstract of a BA thesis (300-400 words) the applicant has either defended or plans to defend before entering the MA programme. The abstract should be in English, although the thesis does not necessarily have to deal with Anglophone literatures and cultures;
  • A tentative proposal for an MA dissertation (900-1000 words, along with a critical bibliography, which is not included in the word count).

Applicants are advised to check the research interests of members of staff when preparing a draft thesis topic and to consult information on MA thesis requirements. We highly recommend consulting outstanding MA theses defended at the department (freely available in the Charles University Digital Repository), as well as sample thesis proposals: sample 1, sample 2, sample 3.

Apart from the above-mentioned documents, the applicant has to submit an official transcript supplemented by descriptions of all courses studied at BA level, or a certified SIS transcript (issued by the CUFA registry office). This transcript serves merely for the information of the committee and is not evaluated.

Enclosures must not be received later than 31 March 2021.
