  • A tentative proposal for an MA dissertation (900-1000 words, in English). Max. 80 points.
  • Selected bibliography for the proposed MA dissertation of 10 relevant secondary sources, ONE of which should be described in detail, explaining its relevance to the proposed project in terms of methodology and subject matter (200 words, in English). Max. 20 points.

Both required enclosures should be lucidly formulated and clearly structured.

Applicants are advised to check the research interests of members of staff when preparing a draft thesis topic and to consult information on MA thesis requirements. We highly recommend consulting outstanding MA theses defended at the department (freely available in the Charles University Digital Repository), as well as sample thesis proposals: sample 1, sample 2, sample 3.

Apart from the above-mentioned documents, the applicant has to submit an official transcript supplemented by descriptions of all courses studied at BA level, or a certified SIS transcript (issued by the CUFA registry office). This transcript serves merely for the orientation of the admission committee and is not evaluated.

These enclosures must be uploaded as attachments to the application form no later than 31 March 2025 for the programme accredited in English, and 15 May 2025 for the programme accredited in Czech. Please see the upload instructions.

Eligibility

Candidates who score a total of 50 points and more (see above) are considered for admission.

Admission

The amount of points you scored will be posted in the Student Information System in late June 2025. An official notification of admission will be uploaded into the Student Information System by the end of July.

Enrolment

Applicants who are accepted must enrol before the end of September at a date given in the official notification of acceptance to secure their place. Applicants who will have not passed a BA exam by the time of the entrance examination are going to be – provided they have passed the entrance examination – accepted in the MA programme on a conditional basis. Any such students need to defend their BA thesis and pass their BA exam by the end of September at the latest. Applicants from abroad must also submit copies of their BA degrees certified by Charles University by this date. For instructions, see the download menu.
